UL0207
Massive Fossil Leaf Mural
-
Green River Formation, Wyoming
Eocene 50 Million Years
24 x 46 inches
This extremely large leaf displays well defined veins and superb color contrast with the limestone matrix. Acquired from the Carl Ulrich collection, plant fossils of this size are quite unusual. An excellent collectors specimen that may also provide a dramatic design statement as wall decor. It is framed with African Wenge wood.
$4,500

RN021509
Fossil Palm with Fish Mural
Sabalites, Diplomystus dentatus
Green River Formation, Wyoming
Eocene, 50 Million Years
60 x 96 inches
Arguably the most aesthetically appealing finds from the Green River Formation are its amazing palm fronds. Considered rare in this geologic formation due to the low probability of preservation of the delicate organic material, these wonderful fossil plants evoke the subtropical climate of North America during the Eocene. In the high desert of what is now known as Wyoming, an ancient lake system, surrounded by lush subtropical vegetation, teemed with fishes, turtles and crocodiles. The present specimen is a superlative palm frond specimen, accompanied by a wonderful sampling of fishes characteristic of this locality: 2 Diplomystus dentatus, including a particularly desirable large specimen to the lower left, 2 Priscacara liops above, and 1 Knightia eocaena. The stone has been backed with wood and custom framed in oak.
$48,000

Monumental Petrified Wood Log
Araucarioxylon arizonicum
Chinle Formation, Northern Arizona
Triassic
110 x 67 x 36in
This massive Log of petrified wood comprise this magnificent offering. The end faces display brilliant red hues, earth tones, cream and black. Petrified wood is formed by a very slow process, which may take up to 225 million years. The organic materials of which a plant is composed must be replaced with minerals while retaining the original structure of the wood. During the Triassic Period, when this tree was buried under sediment, mineral-rich water flowed through the sediment depositing minerals in the tree's cells; as the tree's lignin and cellulose decayed away, a stone cast was formed in its place, producing the extraordinary petrified wood seen here. Measuring 110 x 67in x 36in; The specimen weighs about 10,000 lbs.
$75,000
